The words “root canal” have long inspired fear in dental patients, but thanks to modern dental technology, root canals are no longer as intense or painful as they may have been in years past. Our dentist will do everything possible to make your root canal procedure comfortable and effective. Continue reading to learn more about our one-visit root canals.
What is a One-Visit Root Canal?
Inside your tooth is a tissue called the pulp. When this pulp becomes infected or inflamed, it can cause a tooth abscess in the area. A root canal can save an infected tooth without the need for extraction.
A one-visit root canal is a dental procedure that will remove the affected pulp. This will relieve the pain and allow you to chew normally again. A few symptoms of infected pulp are swelling, temperature sensitivity, or pain in the tooth and gums. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, call the Premier Dental Center to schedule an appointment with Dr. Nazarian.
One-Visit Root Canal Procedure
During the one-visit root canal procedure, our dentist will provide either local anesthesia or sedation to ensure your comfort. Our team will then remove the infected pulp from the affected tooth and clean the area thoroughly. The area is then sealed to prevent future infections. We may place a temporary filling on the tooth to protect it until your restoration is complete.
After your root canal procedure, our dentist will work with you to schedule a follow-up appointment to fit a crown over the area. This will restore your tooth to its full function.
For the first few days after the root canal procedure, you may experience some sensitivity or discomfort that can be relieved with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medications, as directed. You should avoid chewing on the treated tooth until you have your full restoration. If a problem occurs, contact our office immediately.
