Cosmetic dentistry is a medical science and an art. Not only do we restore the appearance of teeth, but we often improve their function. That way, you’re able to enjoy a smile that looks and feels natural. To learn what procedures are the right fit for your smile, you’ll need to schedule an appointment with our cosmetic dentist in Shelby Township, MI.
In the meantime, here’s what you need to know about your options for cosmetic dental care.
Teeth Whitening
Wish you could try teeth whitening at home? You’re in luck!
Our dentist is able to create custom trays for you to use from the comfort of your own home.
During your first appointment, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab. The lab will then use these impressions to create your custom whitening trays.
When you return for your second appointment, your whitening trays will be ready. Dr. Nazarian will have you wear the trays to ensure they’re a comfortable fit. He’ll also give you instructions for whitening your teeth at home.
Over the next few weeks, your teeth will gradually whiten toward your desired shade.
Custom whitening trays are both safe and effective.
Cosmetic Bonding
During the cosmetic bonding procedure, we mold a putty-like substance to the surface of your tooth. This restores front teeth with small chips, cracks, or stains. We may also use bonding to close small gaps between front teeth or improve their shape.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells we can bond to the fronts of your teeth. These shells cover slight chips, cracks, stains, and other minor imperfections. Porcelain veneers are perfect for teeth with cosmetic, rather than structural issues.
The veneers procedure takes two trips to our office.
During your first appointment, we’ll need to remove a thin layer of enamel from the fronts of your teeth. This will ensure there’s enough room for the dental veneers. Next, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to the lab.
Your veneers will be ready when you return for your second appointment. Our dentist will make sure they’re a good fit before bonding them to the surface of your teeth.
Lumineers®
Lumineers are like veneers, except much thinner. This means we often don’t have to remove enamel from the fronts of your teeth to make room for the Lumineers.
During your first appointment with us, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to send to the Lumineers lab.
When you return for your second appointment, your Lumineers will be ready. Dr. Nazarian will ensure your new Lumineers are the right color, size, and shape to match the rest of your smile.
Inlays & Onlays
Dr. Nazarian may recommend an inlay or onlay if you have a cavity that’s too big for a filling but too small for a crown.
Unlike fillings that are molded directly onto your teeth, dental inlays and onlays are made in a lab. For this reason, dental inlays and onlays are often called “indirect” restorations.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
There is a lot of overlap between cosmetic and restorative dentistry, especially if a patient needs full mouth reconstruction. As the name suggests, a full mouth reconstruction may be needed if a patient needs significant dental work to improve the health, function, and appearance of their smile. If most of your teeth need dental work, you’re most likely a candidate for full mouth reconstruction.
